How to Make a Mini Yarn Hat Ornament
DIY Mini Yarn Hat Ornaments
What you need:
Cardboard tube (toilet paper roll, kitchen paper towel roll,...)
Yarn in many colors, we recommend yarn that isn't too expensive - we love this pack of assorted colors or this color changing yarn set.
Scissors
A small piece of tissue paper.
How:
Begin by cutting the yarn into threads of approximately 6-8 inches each.(~40-50), ensuring they are all of equal length, which will depend on the width of your paper roll. Experiment to find the ideal length for your project.
Start by cutting one thread and testing it out.
Next, cut the paper roll into a thin "ring." (Approximately 1/2”)
"Fold" a yarn thread in half and insert the "loop" side through the paper roll.
Take the cut ends, "fold" it over the paper roll, and insert cut ends into the loop. Pull to create a knot.
Repeat the process of "folding" the yarn thread in half, pushing the "loop" side through the paper roll, and securing it with a knot. Continue until the entire paper roll is covered with yarn.
Once the entire ring is covered, push the yarn through the paper roll. An easy way to do this is to "twist" all the threads together and push them through.
Create a small ball out of tissue paper and insert it into the paper roll. This will help shape the hat and keep the yarn in place.
Finally, tie a knot around the threads to form a neat hat shape and trim the pom-pom for a polished appearance.
